Sex toy company LELO have shared their predictions for the top seven sex trends of the coming months

While there's always a sexy new trend waiting to be followed by curious couples, it appears this year might see several old trends make a comeback, at least according to LELO.

The lifestyle company, which specializes in creating intimate and luxurious sex toys, have revealed their top trends for 2019 and there are some surprising additions on the list.

These include ideas and items which have been around for decades - such as sex dolls and open relationships.

Here's a look at their predictions...

1. Open and Poly relationships

Sex and relationships involving multiple partners have been around for as long as anyone can remember, but LELO believes it's only now that people are starting to come to terms with and accept "alternative" relationships.

They said: "BDSM and kink were thrust into the public consciousness, in the wake of Fifty Shades. Now, the mainstream is being aware that more complex and potentially more satisfying relationship styles are out there.

"2019 will likely see the poly community and these dynamics explored in more detail by the mainstream."

2. Singledom and Gifting

In total contrast to the first trend, LELO has claimed that one of the biggest trends we're going to see in 2019 is "an increase in women remaining happily single later into their lives".

They explained: "This continues a trend that's been going on for decades: the average age for marriage in 1971 was 22.4 years old, in 2018 it was 31."

Instead of focusing on male relationships, LELO believes women may be spending more time focusing on their friendships - and specifically buying gifts for other women.

"According to LELO's 2018 website data, around Valentine's Day 2018, LELO saw 14 percent of all orders being placed by women and sent to other women's addresses," they revealed.

"That combined with the correspondence our customer service team get asking for advice for what a friend might like, the pattern becomes clear."

3. Sex Dolls

As well as seeing more 'poly' relationships in 2019, we're apparently also going to keep seeing sex dolls. Yep, they're not going away anytime soon.

LELO said: "Sex dolls have been around for decades, usually of the shocked-looking inflatable kind with silly names.

"But 2019 might well see them take us all by surprise."

They added: "No longer haunting the dusty shelves of your local dingy sex shop, sex dolls are coming of age, with full silicone construction, creepily lifelike features and fully articulating internal skeletons that offer a natural range of motion."

4. Artificial Intelligence

If sex dolls weren't bad enough, LELO thinks artificial intelligence may also start being introduced into our sex lives.

"2019 will see the beginnings of an artificial intelligence revolution in sex," they said. "This is going to manifest itself in a number of interesting ways. The wheels are already in motion, but based on the success of devices like Amazon's Alexa, sexual devices of all manner will soon be able to learn the patterns and idiosyncrasies of your pleasure and tailor themselves to you personally."

They claim that using biometric data, an AI sex doll will be able to learn what you love and respond accordingly. They also suggest that advances may see your vibrator start talking dirty to you - if you like that sort of thing.

5. Male Pleasure

As well as all of the above, there's going to be a resurgence of male sex toys in 2019 - apparently.
6. Angrier Sexual Discussion

Sadly not every trend on the list is a good one.

LELO recommends we brace ourselves "for a year of turmoil and upheaval" in 2019, following on from Me Too.

They explained: "From the ashes of 2018, we can expect to see conversations about sex, sexual equality, and human rights become increasingly fraught and heated in 2019.

"It's a positive sign, it means those with more progressive attitudes are winning. This fight won't be settled in 2019, but the debate around it will be more polarising and acerbic than ever in history."

They added: "It's going to get worse before it gets better."

7. Sonic Technology

The company's final trend for 2019 involves more sex toys being made with sonic technology, which will help find new ways to stimulate nerve endings.

LELO released their first sonic sex toy in 2018, known as The LELO SONA, which relies on sonic waves to stimulate the clitoris.

They claim it offers an "entirely new" kind of sensation that delivers pleasure much deeper into the body.
