Speeding - it’s for dummies right? So who better to combat the problem of motorists who drive too fast than Betty, the road safety mannequin.
Anyone who’s recently visited the Gloucester borders will have spotted her, especially if they passed through the village of Aston Ingham.
Because it’s there, at the side of the B4221, that she stands, regardless of the weather, ready to warn drivers of the importance of sticking to the 30mph stipulated.
Website GloucestershireLive says she’s the brainchild of local resident and namesake Berry Goslow, who came up with the idea in the hope it would get people to slow down as they approached.
Wet leaves, low sun, poor light and fog - not to mention clomping great tractors coming round corners pulling trailers behind them - are all factors Betty Go-Slow wants drivers to consider as they barrel around the area’s winding country lanes, paying little heed to the damage and the heartbreak they could cause.
But just because her’s is a very worthy cause, that doesn’t have to mean that Betty has to look dowdy or overly officious.
In fact, Betty’s wardrobe has more in common with the catwalk that the kerbside - she’s previously been spotted sporting everything from a ‘lady of the manor’ tweed number to 'anyone for tennis' sports luxe.
And it's all done to make drivers slow down to gawp at what she's wearing - or wonder why there's some woman standing in the bush with no shoes on.
She's even got her own Facebook page where she poses in her mini-skirts and low-cut tops and holds a bottle of wine. The minx.
However, it’s hoped Betty won't be needed much longer - a wish which will be granted should the local authority install an electronic speed reminder in the near future.
And, when that day comes, Betty will sadly return to her previous job in retail. Well, the window of Dorothy Perkins in Lydney anyway.
